55-200mm VR lens

Postby mike on 26 Aug 2008, 15:24

I am using a D40 with kit lens 18-55mm
I am interested to get a 18-200mm lens but due to tight budget friends
recommended me to buy a 55-200mm lens instead which is cheaper.

Would like to have some advice on this.

Hi Mike,
If you wish to get the 55-200mm lens, I'd instead advise you to get the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses ... avigator=3)
I have one which I use for travel photography, and it's proven its worth and value for money (under RM800).

I haven't personally used the Nikon 55-200mm VR, but the reviews seem to say good things about it. Has anyone used it before?

Hi all -

This response is 6 months late, but I thought I'd just share anyway. I am using a Nikon D40X with two lenses - 18-55 kit lens and 55-200 VR. Served me well for several months until i got fed up changing lenses when taking landscapes and children. I then decided to change both, bought myself a Nikkor 18-55 VR ... which I am have been using for more than a year. Let me tell you, it's worth every cent that I paid for it.

I have not used nor tested other lenses, so I cannot comment much. But i can swear by my 18-200 VR ...
